Herbert G. Smith

Herbert G. Smith, 96, of Waterloo, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at NorthCrest Specialty Care in Waterloo. He was born October 22, 1917 in Kesley, Iowa, the son of George and Wilhemina "Minnie" (De Buhr) Smith. Herbert married Loris "Nadine" Wood in 1967 at Waterloo, Iowa. He worked for nearly forty years at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, retiring in 1979. Previous to that, he worked at Hinson Manufacturing in Waterloo. Herbert was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening, cars and watching his grandchildren grow up. Survivors include his wife, Nadine Smith, of Waterloo; two sons, Kevin (Deb) Smith of Denver, Iowa and Ryan (Stacy) Smith of Waterloo, and five grandchildren, Peyton, Megan, Connor, Alexis & Sterling Smith. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, George, Theodore, John and a brother who died in infancy. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls.
