HERBERT W. HOFFMEISTER was born November 9, 1901 at Morgenstern, Province of Pommern, East Germany the son of Friederich & Margarete Hoffmeister. He married Martha I. Bauer September 5, 1935 at Zion Lutheran Church, Hudson. She preceded him in death on May 3, 1991. Herbert worked as a mechanic repairing locomotives in a round house in Berlin before coming to America in 1925. He worked as a farm hand and in 1940 they started farming for themselves near Morrison. In 1953 they purchased a farm north of Dike where they farmed until their retirement in 1966. Herbert died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls at the age of 101 years.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
Herbert was preceded by his parents; one daughter, Darlene, who died in infancy; two sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003 at Zion Lutheran Church with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, both rural Hudson. Memorials may be directed to the church.
