Leni was a devoted mother and wife who focused on her family. Leni (or Omi as she was fondly known to her 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren), enjoyed listening for hours as her grandchildren played the piano, and often traveled several times a year to visit them across the country. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and preparing delicious meals of traditional German cuisine; and volunteered her time for several years at Sartori Memorial Hospital. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and regularly enjoyed board and card games. She had a special passion for Canasta.

Survivors include two daughters, Roswitha Marold of Waterloo and Karin (Jim) Hagenson of Greenwood Village, Colo.; two sons, Udo (Cindy) Giesen of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Donald (Melinda) Muller of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren, Kathryn (Mike) Fain, Robert (Mindy) Marold, Bryan, Brandon and Brett Giesen, Heather and Heidi Hagenson, Donald (Tina), Megan, Paige and Parker Muller, and Lisa (Del) Mims; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia, Isabella and Sophia Fain, Samuel and Maxwell Marold, Malachi Mims and Myles Giesen; and three sisters, Ani Knupfer, Margaret Peleschka and Ingrid Kraus, all of Germany.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Peter; and a sister Ria.

She will always be remembered for the twinkle in her eye, quick wit and good natured humor. She was greatly loved by her family and friends, and will be dearly missed.

Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Friendship Village Chapel. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Burial will be at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls, following the memorial service. Memorials may be directed to Friendship Village.
