Helen R Thomas

HELEN RUTH THOMAS was born June 6, 1926 in Iowa County, Iowa the daughter of John and Mildred (Huedepohl) Maas. She received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College then taught in one room schools near Marengo, Iowa for one year and Homestead, Iowa for two years. Helen married Warren Thomas November 28, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church at Homestead, Iowa. She died Wednesday, September 29, 1999, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa at 73 years of age.

Helen is survived by two sons, John Thomas and his wife, Eser Tolunay, of St. Louis, Missouri, Daniel Thomas of Grand Rapids, Michigan; three daughters, Ruth Fowler and her husband, Mike, of Atlanta, Georgia, Carol Dempsey and her husband, Jeff, of Phoenix, Arizona; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Nielsen and her husband, Ed, of Cedar Falls, Medora Jacobs and her husband, Jake, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Maas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Helen was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Lorene Maas, and two brothers, Milton Maas and Clark Maas.

Funeral services were Monday, October 4, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the church or Country View Care Facility.
