HAZEL W. PAULUS was born June 20, 1916 in Delaware County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Blanche (Raus) Carrothers. She married Clifford Paulus on October 9, 1946. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1993. Hazel was a 1933 graduate of Waterloo East High School and worked at Hinson Manufacturing Company and in the Credit Department at Blacks Department Store until her retirement. She and her late husband had been members of the Cedar Falls C.B. Club and were volunteers for the American Red Cross. Hazel died Wednesday, November 1, 2000, at the Cedar Falls Western Home, at 84 years of age.
She is survived by her son, Douglas Marshall and his wife Virginia of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; her daughter, Marlys Woock of Cedar Falls; three grandsons, Randy Woock of Reinbeck, Iowa, Brett Marshall of Three Forks, Montana and Scott Marshall of Canoga Park, California; a granddaughter, Lisa Mooty of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; a sister, Ruth Frey of Wells, Minnesota and a niece and two nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters, Madonna and Laurel Carrothers, and Garnet Wagoner.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2000, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, American Cancer Society and the Western Home.
