HAZEL R. ANDERSEN, 99, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was born September 22, 1904, in Evans, Iowa, the daughter of John C. and Daisy (Stump) Robinson. Hazel married Thorvald J. "Toby" Andersen on June 12, 1936 at Kensett, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1990. Hazel was a graduate of Selma High School in Selma, Iowa and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and taught at both Dike and Greene High Schools. Hazel also taught in the Adult Education Program in Waterloo, Iowa. She loved the written word, especially poetry, and had several of her poems published. Hazel was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, the Iowa Poetry Association, the American Association of University Women, the American Farm Bureau, Sigma Tau Delta and Kappa Delta Pi.

Hazel is survived by her sister, Ruth (Chuck) Kuczor of Cedar Falls and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Michael Andersen.

Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Home or Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.
