Hartvig "Hart" F. Madsen, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, March 17, 2000 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home following a lengthy illness. He was born March 18, 1910 at his home near New Hartford, Iowa the son of A. Olaf and Karoline (Henriksen) Madsen. He married Rigmor "Rigs" Petersen on February 23, 1936 in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1994. He married Anna Stocker on July 25, 1998 in Cedar Falls.  Hart graduated from New Hartford High School. He and his wife, Rigs, owned and operated Hart's Food Center at 115 W. 16th St., Cedar Falls from 1936 to 1979. He was a lifelong and active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. For many years he was active as a Boy Scout leader and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award.  Survivors include his wife, Anna B Stocker Madsen of Cedar Falls; two sons, Wayne Madsen of Mammoth Lakes, CA and Allen Madsen of Norcross, GA; two daughters, Carol Gates of New Brighton, MN and Sonja "Sunny" Kung and her husband, George, of Stevens Point, WI; five grandchildren, Douglas Gates, Diane Gates, Tim Kung, David Kung, and Stephen Kung; one brother, Bernhard Madsen of New Hope, AR; one sister, Agneta Jensen of Cedar Falls; three stepdaughters, Janett Aschbrenner of Cedar Falls, Patti Cole of Jefferson City, MO, and Meri Jo McIlhon of Des Moines, Iowa; eight step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a grandson, Bruce Gates; two brothers, Einer and Helge Madsen; and five sisters, Rebecca Hansen, Dagmar Pedersen, and Sigrid, Alpha, and Julia Madsen.  Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with private inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. The family is very grateful for the help and care by Cedar Valley Hospice-especially Melissa, Jennifer, Ken and Ila; the care and concern of the Lutheran Home staff, and also for the loving support of many friends during Hart's illness.  Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls Lutheran Home or Cedar Valley Hospice.
