HARRY FRANKLINZEY,
76, of Cedar Falls, died at his home on Thursday, June 23, 2005, of cancer. He was born March 31, 1929, son of Edward John and Stella Eva Rose Scheidt Zey, at Prairie Home Missouri. Harry came to Waterloo in 1947 to work at John Deere Company in Department 11. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 4 years from 1950-1954 during the Korean Conflict.
Harry returned to John Deere Company and worked in the Waterloo Tractor Works Service and Marketing Departments until retiring in 1986. His passion for the business quickly drew him back to the Company he loved. In 1987, he was asked to come back to work on special assignment for the John Deere Tractor Works. He then transferred to the John Deere Power Systems division in 1989, as an instructor and consultant. He married Jeanne Marie Canfield, July 24, 1959, at St. Johns Catholic Church, Waterloo, Iowa. They have 4 sons and 8 grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne, sons, Randy (Diane), Rusty (Sue), Robert (Molly) of Cedar Falls and Roger (Tina) of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren: Letisha, (Fiancé Christopher Murray), Cody, Conner, Chase, Jackson, William and Walker Zey and a special friend of the family Stacey Carlson; one brother, Joe (Joyce), sister-in-law ClaraBelle Zey of Prairie Home, Missouri, two sisters Pauline (Harry) Edwards, Juanita (Earl) Holliday, nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece-Paula Holliday Twenter and her husband, Mark, a brother Donald Zey, and his grandson Kyle Edward Zey.
A Funeral Mass was 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. In Lieu of plants, memorials may be directed to the family.
