Harry Dale Sullivan, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, October 24, 2015, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. He was born May 12, 1928 at Bellevue, Iowa, the son of Richard and Kathleen (Orr) Sullivan. Harry married Vera Mae McGinnis on September 11, 1948 in Dubuque, Iowa. He worked at John Deere Dubuque Works and the John Deere Product Engineering Center, Cedar Falls, for 37 years, retiring in 1984. Harry was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, served in the Iowa Army National Guard and was involved in many organizations in the community, including Boy Scouts of America (BSA), where he was a member for 64 years and was past Winnebago Council President (1992-1994), past Vice President of Administration, Programs and Properties and served on the Executive Board. Harry also received numerous awards and honors from the BSA. He was a Master Mason for over 50 years and was a member of both the Dubuque Metropolitan Lodge 49 AF & AM and Black Hawk Lodge 65 AF & AM. Harry was a Scottish Rite Mason 32, where he was past President and Treasurer of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Scottish Rite Club. He was also past President and Treasurer of the El Kahir Shrine Mobile Nobles. Harry was former Director and Impresario of the Royal Order of Jesters. He was also a member of the UNI Athletic Scholarship Club, the Waterloo Technical Society, Waterloo Elks Lodge 290, the Hearst Center and the Oster Regent Theatre. Harry received the 2002 Cedar Valley Mayors' Volunteer Performance Award. Harry is survived by his wife, Vera Sullivan, of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Kathie (Jim) Cahill, of Waterloo; a son, David (Lori) Sullivan, of Jonesboro, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Ryan (Meghan) Sullivan, Jamie (Jens) Baker, Kristin Cahill and Krystal (Thomas) Bradford; three step grandchildren, Jason (Gracie) Sells, Kari (Doug) Meyrose and Stephanie (Anthony) James; seven great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren, and three brothers, Richard Sullivan of Dubuque, Thomas Sullivan of Cedar Falls and Paul (Judy) Sullivan of Arlington, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathleen Dilworth; a brother, Robert Sullivan; a half sister, Margaret Howell and two half brothers, Dale Sullivan and Ken Meisenburg. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Garden of Memories in Waterloo. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 48:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a Black Hawk Masonic Lodge #65 service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Visitation also one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church, Winnebago Council Boy Scouts of America, El Kahir Shrine Endowment Fund, Mended Hearts Chapter 145 or Cedar Valley Hospice.
