Harry E. Petersen, Jr., 61, of Cedar Falls, died at home on Thursday, June 7, 2012. He was born December 4, 1950 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Harry and Karen (Christensen) Petersen. Harry married Cindy Staley June 30, 1973 at St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Harry graduated from Cedar Falls High School and Hawkeye Institute of Technology. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, and was a supervisor in Engineering Services at John Deere Power Systems, retiring April 13, 2010. Harry was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49, the VFW, H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group), and the Cedar Valley Corvette Club. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Petersen, of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Kathryn (Ben) Handfelt, of Chicago, Illinois; his granddaughter, Lily Handfelt, also of Chicago; one brother, Philip Petersen, of Cedar Falls; and three sisters, Becky Vauthier of Waterloo, Audrey Petersen of Cedar Falls, and Annette (Dennis) Madiska of Berthoud, Colorado. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; his nephew, Matthew Madiska; and a brother in law, Jerry Vauthier. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with military honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Inurnment will be at Garden of Memories in Waterloo at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
