Harriet Congdon

Harriet Congdon, 99, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Windhaven Assisted Living Center in Cedar Falls. She was born July 27, 1913 in Traer, Iowa, the daughter of James and Christine (Vogt) Hartshorn. Harriet married Russell Congdon on June 4, 1938 in Traer, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 20, 2001. Harriet graduated from Traer High School in 1932 and attended Iowa State Teachers College for two years. She taught for one year in a country school near Traer and then taught for three years in the Traer school system. Harriet was a partner in Congdon Printing and retired in 1996. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church Women, UNI Presidents Club, and Soroptimus Club. Survivors include two sons, Ralph (Marcia) Congdon of Davenport, Iowa and Richard (Rita) Congdon of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Craig Congdon, Christopher (Lisa) Congdon, Noelle (Bryan) Stow, Todd (Ahreum Han) Congdon, Jenifer (James) Barry, and Joel (Sarah) Congdon and eleven great grandchildren. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters, Margaret Marshall, Elizabeth Keith, and Agness Wells. Services will be 10:30 am March 23, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Buckingham Cemetery near Traer. Visitation will be 47:00 pm Monday, March 11, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service.
