Harold Tuchel, 77, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

Born April 11, 1948, in Ratzeburg, Germany, Harold was the son of Walter and Greda (Mirbach) Tuchel. From an early age, his life reflected perseverance, service, and a strong work ethic. After graduating from Waterloo West High School, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Navy, dedicating four years to honorable military service — an experience that shaped his discipline, integrity, and lifelong sense of duty.

Following his time in the Navy, Harold pursued higher education at the University of Northern Iowa and Iowa State University, further building the knowledge that would define his professional career.

He devoted many years to John Deere, where his skill, precision, and commitment earned him respect as an electrician. Harold took great pride in his work, retiring in 2015 after a career marked by reliability, craftsmanship, and quiet leadership.

On October 3, 1980, Harold married Elaine Mavis Kiesau. Together they built a life centered on family, loyalty, and love. Though he achieved much professionally, Harold considered his greatest accomplishments to be his family and the steady example he set for them.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter (Theresa) Tuchel, and his beloved wife, Elaine.

Harold is survived by his mother; his daughter, Jennifer (Travis Bailey) Sawyer of Cedar Falls; his cherished grandchildren, Tyler (Hanna) Fulks, Allianna Clark, Gavin Clark, Barron Roatch, Rainn Roatch, and Serenity Pardun; his brother, Charlie (Pat) Tuchel of Rogers, Arkansas; and his faithful companions, rescue cat, Lumina, and dachshund, Brownie.

Harold will be remembered for his steady strength, his service to his country, his dedication to his grandchildren, and the deep love for his family. His life stands as a testament to hard work, perseverance, loyalty, and love.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo, with visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
