Harold H. Steege, 93, of Lansing, Iowa, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Thorton Manor Nursing Center in Lansing. He was born March 3, 1921 in Readlyn, Iowa, the son of Fred and Caroline (Moeller) Steege. Harold married Virginia Gehring on July 18, 1943 in Waverly, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1986. Harold farmed with his family in the Dunkerton and Waverly area and later worked for Mead Containers in Waterloo for thirty-two years, retiring in 1984. Survivors include his son, Ron (Betty) Steege, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; a daughter, Barbara (Don) DeMark, of Bedford, New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Dawn (Andrew) Buik, Mindy (Pat) Giesler and Andrew (Amanda) Steege; four great grandchildren, Jeremiah and Emma Giesler, and Landon and Lincoln Steege; three step great grandchildren, Brittany Warta, Tyler and Patrick Giesler, and a sister, Ruth Robinson, of League City, Texas. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and ten brothers and sisters. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church, with burial at Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
