HAROLD R. BACKERMAN,
92, of Cedar Falls died Monday, September 19, 2005 at his home. Harold was born July 6, 1913 at Herman, Minnesota the son of Herman & Ida Davis Backerman. He married Gwendolyn Johnson September 2, 1937 in Ehler, Iowa. Harold served in the U.S. Army from October of 1931 to July of 1934 in the Philippines. He was employed at John Deere and Company as an engineer and retired on September 21, 1973 after 39 years of employment.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen of Cedar Falls; two sons, David (Rolene) Backerman of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Ernest (Jill) Backerman of Seneca, South Carolina; one daughter, Marilyn (Mark) Trunnell of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Jim (Ellen) Trunnell, Katie (Bill) Heubner, Tyler Trunnell, Megan Trunnell, Jeffrey Backerman and Cheryl (Kevin) Patrick; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey Backerman and Charles Backerman, both of Cedar Falls; and one sister, Margaret Holm, of Cedar Falls. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brothers, James and John Backerman.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2005 at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Waterloo with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Full military rites were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. A memorial fund will be established.
