Harlon Russell Eckhoff, 98, of Cedar Falls, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, at the Martin Suites at Western Home Communities. He was born September 10, 1926, on a farm near Parkersburg, son of John and Hattie (Dreesman) Eckhoff. Harlon married Ella June Everts on January 11, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He retired from Universal Industries as a supervisor in 1989 after 33 years of service. Harlon was a quiet and meticulous man who enjoyed woodworking, tinkering on cars and mowing his own lawn. He baked the very best snickerdoodles and he and Ella hosted coffee every Saturday morning for any of their children who were available. After retirement, Harlon and Ella travelled the U.S. together until her health no longer allowed.
Harlon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years, Ella; son, Jimmie Lee Eckhoff; granddaughter, Dana Eckhoff; and sister, Mary Ann Huisman. He is survived by his children: Kenneth (Sharon) Eckhoff of Janesville, Linda (Jim) Sterling of the Villages, Florida, Calvin (Cindy) Eckhoff of Cedar Falls, Wayne (Karen) Eckhoff of Waterloo, Wendell (Sue) Eckhoff of Stewartville, Minnesota and LuAnn (Thomas) Ray of Waverly; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a sister, Grace Berends of Cedar Falls.
Harlon's Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on Friday, September 27, 2024, with Visitation Thursday from 4-6:00 pm both at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home of Cedar Falls. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery of Parkersburg. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Western Home Communities Employee Appreciation Fund.
