Harlan H. Ehlert

Harlan H. Ehlert, 86, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, January 29, 2018, at the Western Home Communities Windcove Independent Living.  He was born June 21, 1931 in Mendon, Missouri, the son of Merle and Sophie (Hansen) Robinson.  Harlan married Elsie Kearney on June 21, 1953 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.  She preceded him in death on December 21, 2015.  Harlan graduated from Cedar Falls High School and Gates Business College.  He worked at Clay Equipment Company for many years, served in the Iowa National Guard from 1951-1976, and was co-owner of Ehlert's Hatchery Inc.  Harlan enjoyed woodworking, gardening, managing his rental properties, and was a member of the El Kahir Shrine.

He is survived by his two grandchildren, Todd (Nicole) Johnston of Scotia, New York and Stephen Johnston of Portland, Maine; his two great grandchildren, Caleb & Caitlyn Johnston, both of Scotia, New York, and his son-in-law, Paul Johnston, of Cedar Falls.

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents and wife; his adoptive father, Walter Ehlert; his son, Brian Ehlert; his daughter, Nora Johnston, and his brother, David Ehlert.

Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2018, at Western Home Communities Windcove Dining Center, 5300 S. Main St., Cedar Falls.  Visitation will be 4—6:00 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Western Home Foundation.  Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
