Gretchen Jacobson, 100, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Western Home Communities Windhaven Assisted Living. She was born October 28, 1915 in Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of Albert & Martha (Stoecker) Norby. She married Rev. Douglas Jacobson June 14, 1940 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He preceded her in death September 19, 1996. Gretchen was an English teacher at both Peet Jr. High and Holmes Jr. High Schools. She was a member of PEO Chapter OV, 19th Century Club, endless reading groups and swim clubs.

Survivors include three daughters, JoAnn (David) Browning of Corrales, New Mexico, Gretchen (Kim) Behm of Cedar Falls and Martha (Don) Debelak of Mounds View, Minnesota; her daughter-in-law, Jan Jacobson of Coralville, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her son, Jon Jacobson; her brother, Paul Norby and her sister, Dorothy Finch.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Friends of the Cedar Falls Public Library or St. John Lutheran Church where the gifts will be distributed to Lutheran World Relief and World Hunger.
