GRACE A. JOHNSON was born January 24, 1921 in rural New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of E. W. and Ella (Bergman) Doeden. She married Earl Johnson on December 29, 1939 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2001. Grace worked for the Cedar Falls School District for many years and for Wheeler's Autobody Supply for the past five years. She enjoyed her family and friends, fishing and camping, baking, especially cookies and pies, and watching Hawkeye and Cyclone basketball games. Grace died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, at 81 years of age.
She is survived by her children, Richard E. "Dick" Johnson (Linda) of Cedar Falls, David Johnson (Bev) of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Nancy Tjebkes (Dudley) of Cedar Falls and Mark A. Johnson (friend Susan) of Kelley, Iowa; ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Doeden of Apache Junction, Arizona, Tommy and Ernie Doeden, both of Cedar Falls and a sister, Dena Huisman of Parkersburg, Iowa.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband and parents; an infant daughter, Leona; a sister, Anna Treager and three brothers, George, Joe and Omke Doeden.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, with interment at Garden of Memories in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
