GORDON BENNETT PORTER, 89, of Cedar Falls died Monday, February 14, 2005 at Sartori Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Gordon was born October 16, 1915 at Sioux City, Iowa the son of Roy F. & Mary Mayme (Bennett) Porter. He married Jean Parman May 12, 1942 at the Congregational Church in Cedar Falls. Gordon farmed in Black Hawk County for over 35 years until 1968 and then was a grounds keeper at the University of Northern Iowa for 14 years retiring in 1982.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Cedar Falls; two sons, Bradd (Jane) Porter of Garnavillo, Iowa and Ross Porter of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Kay (James) Westendorf of Fort Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Westendorf, Amy (David) George, and Michael (Donna) Westendorf, Luke, John, Daniel, Gloria and James Porter; two great grandchildren, Meredith George and Jessica Westendorf; two sisters, Jane Berninghausen of Accokeek, Maryland and Marjory (Bill) Peard of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and sixteen nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and John Porter; a brother-in-law, William H. Berninghausen; and a niece, Pamela Klemm.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2005, at United Church of Christ with burial in Fairview Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the church.
