Gladys Elsie Love, 94, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, April 24, 2022 at UnityPoint Allen Hospital.
Gladys was born August 18, 1927 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to the late George and Elsie Mae (Andersen) Schultz. She graduated from Otho High School and went on to earn her cosmetology degree working out of her home for a short while. Gladys married Dallas Baker in 1965, who died in 1978. Love found her once more when she married Darrell Love in 1980 and enjoyed 12 years together until his death in 1992.
Gladys was also an amazing quilter. She had two quilts that were juried in at the Paducah International Quilt Show, one was an original pattern published three different times. She also had two blue ribbon quilts that traveled the state of Iowa. Mom created a large wall hanging of the four seasons, using different stages of trees. This was another blue ribbon winner quilt. The curator of the National State Bank saw it and purchased it to be displayed in their different banks. Gladys was a member of Keepsake Quilters and thoroughly enjoyed all the quilter friendships she developed over the years. She also enjoyed cribbage with her grandsons and daughter. Especially when she won, which was often. She loved playing the card game railroad with all the family members when we got together. Mom enjoyed making her wonderful, from scratch, world famous (at least within the family) French bread with T.J.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Linda (Bill) Vognsen and Laura (Jim) Sniffin both of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Tom (Joan) Boyd, Dena (Mark) McCabe, Thomas Sniffin (T.J.) and Michael Sniffin; great-grandchildren, Roman Lorenzen, Devon (Jon) Drugan; great-great-grandchildren, Olivia and Levi, Dorian; sister, Joan Shafer; and many extended family and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her son, Larry Cook; siblings, George Schultz Jr., Alfred Schultz, Evelyn Lathrop, Esther Smith and Bernice Sonnicksen; special friends, Carl Blad and Vera Hines.
