Gladys Day

Gladys Rachel Day, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, March 2, 2015, at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born February 22, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Roy Alva and Doris (Smith) Wheeler. Gladys married William Loge and they were later divorced. She then married Lawrence "Larry" Day. He preceded her in death in February 1999. Gladys was a graduate of Dunkerton High School and worked for many years in customer service at several hotels. She was a senior companion, a member of the Orchard Hill Bible Care Group, and was a volunteer with various church organizations and Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. She is survived by one daughter, Cindy (Calvin) Eckhoff, of Cedar Falls; one son, Brian (Carol Fischels) Loge, of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Cletus (Agnes) Wheeler, of Dunkerton, and two sisters, Rea (Roy) Moss of Indianola, Iowa, and Dory Sanchez of Capistrano Beach, California. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a granddaughter, Veronika Green; a brother, Alvin Wheeler, and a sister, Arlene Lofstuen. Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Garden of Memories in Waterloo. Visitation will be 47:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church. A memorial fund will be established.
