Gilbert Lyle Call, 93, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the UnityPoint Hospice Affinity House in Waterloo. He was born September 20, 1920 in Westgate, Iowa, the son of Chester O. and Zola (Johnson) Call. Gilbert was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. In 1940 he graduated from West High School in Waterloo. Gilbert married Ruth Johnson May 5, 1944 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death December 23, 2009. Before his retirement, Gilbert worked for Standard Oil (Amoco) as a Bulk Agent. He is survived by one son, Lauren (Linda) Call, of Waterloo; three grandchildren, David (Kari) Pierschbacker of Earlville, Iowa, Jason (Tiffany) Pierschbacher of Clarksville, Tennessee and Kristy (Jay) Lowenberg of Kalona, Iowa; eight great grandchildren, Megan, Ben and Laura Pierschbacher, Ruth and Jude Pierschbacher, and Gibson, Brock, and Ruby Lowenberg. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three sisters. Funeral services will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday June 20, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
