GEORGIANA LYONS was born September 8, 1922 in Ida Grove, IA., the daughter of Harry E. and Cora Irene (Jenks) Amidon. She married Edward F. Lyons on March 31, 1943 in New York City, NY. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1978. Georgiana was the Senior Citizen Director for the Cedar Falls Recreation Dept. for 12 years and a Library Aide at Valley Park School for 6 years. She was a member of Chapter R-PEO, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society at St. Patrick Catholic Church and a volunteer at St. Patrick School. Georgiana died Tuesday, October 9, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, IA., at 79 years of age.
She is survived by her children, Georgia Smith of New Hartford, IA., Mary Balanda of Winter Park, FL., Beth Lyons of Woodbury, CT., Terry Brix of Ankeny, IA., Peg Lyons of Kansas City, MO. and Larry Lyons of Cedar Falls, IA; eight grandchildren, Jeff and Todd Smith, Angie Sorrell, and Catherine, John, Tommy, Danny and Sarah Brix, and four great-grandchildren, Sonya Block, Justin Sorrell, Alex Smith and Haleigh Sorrell.
Georgiana was preceded in death by her husband and parents; two brothers, Richard and Robert Amidon and a sister, Virginia Bratton.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2001, St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, with private inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
