Georgiana "Georgia" Lea Smith

Georgiana (Georgia) Lea Smith, 75, of New Hartford, Iowa died at her home under the loving care of her husband on December 24, 2019 after a courageous battle with dementia. She was born January 26, 1944 in Marshalltown IA, the daughter of Edward F. Lyons and Georgiana (Amidon) Lyons. Georgia graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1962. She united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Smith on February 8, 1964. They have three children.

Georgia attended Pitzes School of Beauty before working at John's House of Beauty. She later became a stay-at-home mom. She was well known for her cake decorating skills. Friends and family always loved Georgia's delicious cakes for every occasion. She held other jobs including Hancock Fabric, Merle Norman Cosmetics, Baskin-Robbins/Pretzel Maker, and babysitting grandchildren. Georgia was a very talented seamstress, she enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with Bob.

Georgia is survived by her husband, her three children, Jeff Smith of New Hartford, IA, Todd Smith (Linda) of Rochester, MN., and Angie Sorrell (Gene) of Dyersville, IA., five grandchildren, Sonya Weber (Colton), Justin Sorrell, Alex Smith, Haleigh Sorrell, and Eric Smith. One great-grandchild, Sawyer Weber, and another great-grandchild due in May 2020. Her siblings Mary Balanda of Winter Springs, FL., Beth Lyons (John) of Woodbury, CT., Terry Lyons-Brix of Ankeny, IA., Peg Lyons of Prairie Village, KS., and Larry Lyons of Cedar Falls. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents.

Services: Visitation from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7 and memorial service at 2 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 8 at Dahl - Van Hove - Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family or UnityPoint Hospice.
