George Martin Harris, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, October 16, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. He was born September 17, 1927 in Paris Township, near Lourdes, Iowa, the son of William and Lillian Georgina (Phinney) Harris. George married Evelyn Juhl on February 1, 1957 in Waverly, Iowa. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2011. George served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was a Tool and Die Room Supervisor at Clay Equipment, retiring in 1991 after 43 years of service. He also was founder and partner of G & G Industries and Raincap Incorporated. George was a member of the St. Patrick Shamrocks and was a church usher for many years. He also was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and former member of the Knights of Columbus and Waterloo Elk's Club. Survivors include his daughter, Deb (Rick) Giarusso, of Cedar Falls; his grandson, Ryan Giarusso, of Washington, D.C.; two exchange student granddaughters, Elita McDonald of Christchurch, New Zealand and Ana Paula Cunha of Monte Carmelo, Brazil; a brother, Fred (Lucy) Harris, of Waterloo, and numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents and wife; three brothers, Francis, John and Roger (Angeline) Harris, and a sister, Kathryn (Gervase) O'Brien. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 4:00 p.m. Rosary service and a 7:00 p.m. Vigil service will be conducted.
