George Alton Dunkelberg, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, December 26, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. He was born October 24, 1937 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Floyd and M. Celeste (Armstrong) Dunkelberg. George married Nancy Rogers on December 31, 1960 at Faith Wesleyan Church in Cedar Falls. He was a graduate of Waterloo East High School and attended both Creighton and Drake University. George was a salesman for AAA Motor Club and was a member of First Christian Church. He was also a member and past president of both Mended Hearts Incorporated and Cedar Valley Emergency Volunteers. George enjoyed his family as well as fishing and canoeing. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Dunkelberg, of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Jeanne (Rob) Volgenau, of Allegany, New York; three grandsons, Ronald (Courteney) Boenig, Trevor Boenig and Keith (Maryelle Wise) Boenig; five great grandchildren, and a brother, Bob (Jan) Smith, of Davenport, Iowa. George was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Geoffrey Dunkelberg. Services will be 10:30 am Friday, December 30, 2011, at First Christian Church, with burial at Hillside Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 47:00 pm Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home & Cremation Service, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
