George Franklin Colvin, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls. He was born December 7, 1916 at Fairmount, IA, the son of George F. and Zelpha Eunice (Coffman) Colvin. George graduated from Prairie City High School in 1935 and moved to Cedar Falls in 1937. He married Iva Marie Cook on November 1, 1941 in Cedar Falls. George served for almost four years in the United States Army during WW II, receiving the Purple Heart. He worked for Montgomery Ward, Roskamp Manufacturing, and Viking Pump, retiring in 1981.

George is survived by his wife, Iva Marie, of Cedar Falls; one son, Tom L. (Carol Griglione) Colvin, of Runnells, IA; two daughters, Dianne M. (Jim L.) Larson and Suellyn (David A.) Brooks, both of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Ryan) Besh, of Denver, IA, Chris (Kellie) Shoemaker of Cedar Falls, Keevan (Mike) Kosidowski of Eagan, MN, Penni Larson of Seattle, WA, Matt (Janice) Brooks of Cedar Falls, Sarah (Joel) Oltrogge of Denver, IA, Josh Colvin of Des Moines and Allyson (Matt) McLaughlin of Cedar Falls; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, John H. (Irene) Colvin, of Louisville, KY, and one sister, Ella Erskin, of Alliance, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, David Colvin, two brothers, Jess and Dean Colvin, and three sisters, Susan Mustard, Nell Conn and Ruth Owens.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 4—7 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2009, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Memorial may be directed to First United Methodist Church, Western Home Communities and the Animal Rescue League in Des Moines. Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
