George William Baker, 66, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waxhaw, North Carolina, died Friday, September 19, 2014, at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital in Waterloo. He was born January 6, 1948, in Monroe, North Carolina, the son of William and Nellie (Privette) Baker. George married Julie Ford on May 18, 1990, in Enterprise, Alabama. George served in the United States Army for 23 years, including a tour during Operation Desert Shield, retiring in 1991. Survivors include his wife, Julie Baker, of Cedar Falls; a son, Scott Baker, a daughter Amy Baker, and a step-son, Mike (Lydia) Ackerson, all of Cedar Falls; a grandson, Caeden Ackerson, of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Fred (Helen) Baker and Eugene (Dana) Baker, both of Waxhaw, North Carolina; and four sisters, Elizabeth "Lib" (Steve) Hackney of Monroe, North Carolina, Peggy Parker of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Joyce (Bobby) Cox of Monroe, North Carolina and Pauline (Tom) McLemore of Mineral Springs, North Carolina. George was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Braylon Ackerson, and a brother-in-law, Norman Parker. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 36:00 p.m. Monday, and one hour before service, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com. George's family requests that friends dress casually for both the visitation and the funeral service.
