Lewis "Gene" Bond was born June 3, 1933, in Lawson, Missouri, son of Glen David and Frances Lee (Henderson) Bond.  Gene's parents moved their large family to Cedar Falls when he was young.  He attended Cedar Falls High School where he was a varsity letterman in football.  Gene enlisted into the United States Navy serving from August 1950-March 1954 on the USS Curtiss.  He was united in marriage to Joan (Jacobson) Bond at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Waterloo on June 16, 1962.  Gene owned and operated Gene Bond Plumbing which was incorporated in Cedar Falls in March of 1969 until his retirement in 1998.  He also owned and managed numerous residential rental units throughout the Cedar Valley.  Gene enjoyed RV camping, spending time at the cabin he and Joan owned on the Cedar River, and fishing.  He loved watching westerns on television and sharing coffee with his friends at McDonalds on University Avenue and the Cedar Falls' Maid-Rite.

Gene passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 (one day prior to his 86 th birthday) at NewAldaya Lifescapes of Cedar Falls.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael; his siblings:  Gwendolyn, Glen, Ilene, and Karen.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan; his son, Troy Bond of Fernandina Beach, FL; his daughter, Keli (Tim) Schmidt of Keller, TX; grandchildren:  Donovan, Mars, Timmy, Augustus and Callaway; siblings:  John (Amy) Bond of MN, Doris Smith of MN, Jan (Dan) Ruiz of IL, Jerry (Edna) of Finchford and Pat Weitnauer of Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
