Gayle A. Adelmund, 84, Waterloo, died Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.
Gayle was born December 25, 1938 in Waterloo to the late Marvin and Elizabeth (Barr) Brown. She was a graduate of Hudson High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree from UNI. Gayle married Richard Rhoads in 1960 and the couple were later divorced. She worked as a Home Economics teacher and later was the owner/operator of Gayle's Sew Shoppe. She was also a member of the AMVETS Auxiliary. Gayle married Vernon Adelmund on April 25, 1999 and the couple enjoyed five years together before his death in 2004.
Gayle lived for family, friends, and sewing. She loved to sew and was extremely talented. She enjoyed taking on challenging and unique sewing projects such as turning a fur pullover sweater into a fur jacket or sewing a cover for an ultra-light airplane. Above everything, she loved her family and will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
Gayle is survived by her children, Mona Putney of Charles City, Yvette (Keith) Brice of Waterloo and Rex Rhoads of Waterloo; step-children, Linda (Dave) Hoffman, Sheryl (Jim) Kinney, Joyce (Dennis) Raster, Phyllis Adelmund and David (Melissa) Adelmund; grandchildren, Samuel (Lindsay) Putney, Tineka (Aaron) Mouchka, Tarina (David) Gardner and Thomas Hall; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Alexis, Isaac, Aubrey, Jaxon, Bailey, Kai and Kiara; siblings, Lee (Sharon) Brown of LaPorte City, Trymby (Dennis) Hall of Stanhope and Eugene (Patty) Brown of Traer; her beloved dog, Max; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern Adelmund; son, Todd Rhoads; parents, Marvin and Elizabeth Brown and son-in-law, Raymond Putney.
Gayle's funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2023, at Orchard Hill Church starting at 11am. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11am prior to Gayle's service at the church. Per Gayle's wishes, she will be cremated following funeral services with burial at a later date at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer. Memorial contributions in Gayle's honor may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
