Gary is survived by his wife, Mary of New Hartford; two sons, Chad Alan (Angie) Pietig of Marshalltown, Iowa and Joel (Julie) Pietig of Parkersburg; one step daughter, Stacie (Dan) Loveless of Washburn and one step son, Chris Akers of Indianapolis, Indiana; four grandchildren; his parents Marvin and Annabell Pietig of Carroll, Iowa; two brothers, Dennis (Chris) Pietig and Russell Pietig both of Carroll; two sisters, Joyce (Don) Meiners of Coon Rapids, Iowa and Donna (Paul) Krickel of Mt. Prospect, Illinois.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls. Rev. Dennis Juhl from Blessed Sacrament Church in Waterloo will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, New Hartford. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at the funeral home, with a rosary service at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Treatment Center in Waterloo.
