GARY L.
MCBROOM, 51, of Cedar Falls died Friday, July 23, 2004 in a motor vehicle-pedestrian accident in Cedar Falls. He was born August 21, 1952 in Grinnell, Iowa the son of Carroll & Phyllis (Jones) McBroom. Gary graduated from Cedar Falls High School and Upper Iowa University. He married Susan Crees August 6, 1983 at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. He was a Waterloo Police Officer from October 1973 to September 1998, President and CFO of the Waterloo Police Credit Union since 1997 and also was a part time Court Attendant at the Black Hawk County Courthouse. Gary was past President of the Waterloo Police Protective Association.
Survivors include his wife, Sue, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Derek McBroom and Tory McBroom, both of Waterloo; one daughter, Stacie McBroom of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Jade McBroom and Peyton McBroom, an expectant grandchild; his mother, Phyllis McBroom of Cedar Falls; his mother-in-law, Thelma Crees of Waterloo; one brother, Allen (Ellie) McBroom of Webster City, Iowa; and one sister, Sandy (Mike) Andorf of Waterloo. Gary was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Richard McBroom, and one sister, Kathrine McBroom in infancy.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at St. John Lutheran Church with inurnment at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Waterloo Police Protective Association, St. John Lutheran Church, or the Cedar Falls Public Library.
