Garel L. Johnson, 79, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at NorthCrest Specialty Care in Waterloo. He was born October 9, 1936 on a farm in DeKalb County, Missouri, the son of Earl E. and Ella Inez (Newby) Johnson. Garel married Jeanine Humbert on October 30, 1958 in Cedar Falls. He worked at Viking Pump Company in Cedar Falls for over 40 years, retiring in 2000. Garel and Jeanine owned The Craft Shoppe & Twin Oaks Print and Frame at College Square Mall in Cedar Falls for over 23 years. Garel was a member of Orchard Hill Church. He had the ability to turn broken and worn out treasures of the past into heritage pieces for the future.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanine Johnson, of Cedar Falls; a son, Jeffery (Jillynn) Johnson, of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Sheryl (Rodney) Brandhorst, of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Jeremiah, Jacob and Jonah Johnson, Elizabeth (Robert C.) Hostert and Victoria Brandhorst; a sister, Barbara Johnson, of Grundy Center, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Sue Johnson Boushelle, of Shawnee, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews.

Garel was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bobbie Johnson.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Orchard Hill Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4—6:00 pm Monday, May 30, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.
