Gail E Fitzhugh

Gail E. Fitzhugh, 84, of West Des Moines, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Monday, May 3, 2010, at Manor Care Nursing Home, West Des Moines.  He was born August 6, 1925 at Conway, Iowa, the son of Roy and Leona M. (Murray) Fitzhugh.  Gail married Rachel A. McCurdy on August 6, 1947 at Bedford, Iowa.  She preceded him in death on July 23, 2009.  Gail served in the US Army during WW II and was the Administrator at the Taylor County Home for fifteen years and at County View Care Center in Waterloo for twenty years, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include two sons, Roy (Valinda) Fitzhugh of West Des Moines and Dennis (Vicky) Fitzhugh of Clinton, Tennessee, seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Gail was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a brother, Roy Dean Fitzhugh.

Funeral services were Friday, May 7, 2010, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at 10:00 am Saturday, May 8, at Conway Cemetery, Conway, Iowa.  Military honors were conducted by the Bedford American Legion Post 164.   Memorials may be directed to the Activity Dept. at Country View Care Center, Waterloo, Iowa.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .
