Fred Rekers

Fred W. Rekers, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.     Fred was born July 28, 1932, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Fred Rekers, Sr. and Elizabeth (Bergstrom) Rekers. He married Juanita Hughes June 10, 1955, in Cedar Falls. Fred served in the U. S. Navy from 1953 to 1955, farmed for 33 years and was a truck driver.  He was a member of the Cedar Falls American Legion and a lifelong member of First Baptist/Prairie Lakes Church.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita, of Cedar Falls; three sons, Douglas (Augie) Rekers of Greeley, Colorado, Jeffrey (Sandy) Rekers of Winthrop, Iowa and Matthew (Rachel) Rekers of Dike, Iowa; six grandchildren, Paul Rekers, Angela (Pat) Bennett, Michael (Gina) Rekers, Bradley (Stacy) Rekers, Heather (Zach) Andersen, and Joshua (fiancée Miranda Mead) Rekers; four great grandchildren, Klay Rekers, Weston Rekers, Jameson Bennett and Blakelee Andersen; five step grandsons, Chad (Nicole) Bergmeier, Chaun (Becky) Bergmeier, Greg Dale, Brandon (Diana) Dale and Grant Dale; ten step great grandchildren, Dylan Petersen, Alexis, Josephine, Vincent, Lukah, Jonathan, Katelyn, Ellie and Benjamin Bergmeier, and Ella Dale; his brother-in-law, Harlan (Marlys) Hughes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Cynthia; his brother and his wife, Everett & Marion Rekers, his sister and her husband, Dorothy & Dale Orton and his sister-in-law and her husband, Beulah & John Rockey.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at Prairie Lakes Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family .
