Fred Louis Fletcher, 89, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 24, 2025. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 29 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home; resuming at 9:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home until the time of service. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg.
Fred was born on May 1, 1935, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the only son of Fred Cleveland and Oletha Minerva (Brust-Shultz) Fletcher. On December 31, 1953, Fred was united in marriage to Janyce White in Shellsburg, Iowa. The couple spent time water skiing and skeet shooting before starting a family and welcoming their four children. Fred was a child of God and a member of Oak Grove Church in rural Shellsburg. After 34 years of marriage, Janyce sadly passed away. Fred met and married Marilyn Morrison, they later divorced but remained close friends and loving companions. He played softball, watched the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes, and went camping. After retirement, Fred and Marilyn moved to Florida. He spent his free time fishing, dancing, watching movies, and attending dinner theaters. Fred loved visiting the local VFWs and flea markets. He treasured his time with family. Fred will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Fred is survived by his loving companion, Marilyn Fletcher of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four children, Cathy (Walter) Birdsell of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Carol Fletcher of Marion, Iowa, Chuck (Shanna) Fletcher of Ely, Iowa, and Cheri (Paul) Grieder of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Oletha; his first wife, Janyce, in 1988; four sisters, Geraldine, Yvonne, Sharon, and Connie; and one great-grandson.
