Frank Gardner, 100, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Hudson, Iowa, died Friday, January 4, 2019, at The Waters on Mayowood in Rochester. He was born September 23, 1918 in Rapid City, South Dakota, the son of Harry & Bernice (Greene) Gardner. Frank served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He married Colleen Crees June 17, 1952 in Exira, Iowa. She preceded him in death January 30, 1993. He was a Junior High School and Senior High School Principal, a math and physics teacher, and an Engineer at John Deere for 26 years. He was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson, Iowa. Frank was an active volunteer for many years at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home (now NewAldaya). He taught classes, he filled in for the Chaplain to conduct devotions/vespers, and chauffeured residents to community events.
Survivors include his son, Mark (Beth) Gardner of Rochester, MN; two daughters, Jan (Rick) Madson of Waterloo, IA and Pat Maus of Rochester, MN; five grandchildren, Jonathan (Tharangi) Madson of Eagan, MN, Emily Maus of Washington, DC, Daniel Madson of Littleton, CO, Laura Gardner of Rochester, MN and Andrew Gardner of Sioux Falls, SD; and one great grandson, Parker Madson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and his sister.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church with burial in Hudson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour before service time at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church or Poverello Foundation-Mayo Clinic. Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
