EVELYN K. RATLIFF, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was born August 7, 1918 at Winchester Township, Wisconsin, the daughter of Louis C. and Alma (Zellmer) Kregel. Evelyn married Francis T. Ratliff in 1944 at Appleton, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death in 1999. Evelyn was a graduate of Waupaca, Wisconsin High School and earned a B.A. in chemistry from Lawrence University. She worked as an electron microscopist at the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, Wisconsin, and as a laboratory technician at Standard Oil in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Evelyn and her husband, Dr. Ratliff, lived for many years in Rhinelander, where he worked as a chemical engineer for Rhinelander Paper Company. Evelyn was active in community service, especially in support of education and the arts, and was a member of the American Association of University Women.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ratliff (Mrs. Jan C. Robbins) of Cedar Falls. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and husband, a sister, Bernice Kregel, and an infant son.

Family-directed memorial services will be 10:00 am Thursday, July 27, 2006, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Cedar Falls. Inurnment will be at Forest Home Cemetery in Rhinelander, Wisconsin at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
