Eva Mae Minikus, 89, of Waterloo, died Saturday, January 23, 2010. She was born in Springfield, Illinois October 2, 1920, the daughter of Amos and Ruth (Adwell) Gates. Eva was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States WACS from 1943 to 1945 as a drill sergeant and bugler. She married William Headrick June 2, 1941 and he preceded her in death on September 30, 1970. She married Arnold Minikus June 14, 1974 and he preceded her in death on May 17, 2009. Eva worked as a waitress and hostess at the Waterloo Elks Club for thirty-one years.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Ken) Loftus of Evansdale and Diann Blitsch of Oelwein; twenty grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Hart and Pat Sablotny, both of Springfield, Illinois, and Rose (Otto) Groth of St. Petersburg, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, one daughter, Teresa Corwin, two sons, Bill Headrick II and Donald Minikus, three sisters, Nellie Ferguson, Irene Schaive and Mary Cole, and four brothers, Jess, Ed, Jim, and Duke Gates.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and the United States Army.
