Eunice L. Schoeman, 94, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, October 30, 2009, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls. She was born March 23, 1915, in Bridgeton, New Jersey, the daughter of Rev. William W. and Mary (Harding) Johnston. Eunice spent the first eleven years of her life in Nanjing, China, where her parents were Presbyterian missionaries. They later settled in California, where Eunice graduated from Santa Maria High School and attended Occidental College. On June 14, 1938, Eunice married Vernon Schoeman in Glendale, California, and they returned to the family farm west of Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death in 1984. She remained on the farm until 1994, when she moved to the Western Home Communities. Eunice was a member of Crossroads Assembly of God, where she taught Sunday School and played the piano for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Schoeman Dow, of Seattle, Washington; two sons, David (Barbara) Schoeman of Denver, Colorado and Bruce (Priscilla) Schoeman of Willmar, Minnesota; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Schoeman, of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Julie (Mike) O'Connor, Steve (Kendra) Schoeman, Scott (Niki) Schoeman, Angela Schoeman, Tim (Karly) Schoeman, Matthew Schoeman; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Lawrence (Mildred) Johnston, of Moscow, Idaho, and a sister-in-law, Mildred Schoeman, of Cedar Falls.

Eunice was preceded in death by one son, Paul Schoeman, a daughter-in-law, Nancy Schoeman, and a brother, William Johnston.

Services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the Western Home Communities Chapel, with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4—8:00 pm Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the Western Home Chapel. A memorial fund will be established in Eunice's name.
