Eugene "Gene" C. Schwanke, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, February 23, 2009, at his home. Gene was born October 8, 1917, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of William & Marie (Voight) Schwanke. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Gene married Florence "Mickey" Wilkes in October of 1947 in Raymond, Iowa. She preceded him in death July 11, 2008. Gene was a former Assistant Police Chief for the Cedar Falls Police Department.
Survivors include his son, Ron (Pam) Schwanke, of Elgin, Iowa and his stepson, Bruce (Carol) Bowers, of Colorado. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his sister, Evelyn Scharf.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Private inurnment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
