Eugene N Nielsen

Eugene N. Nielsen, 78, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Dike, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.  Eugene was born April 24, 1932, in Hudson, Iowa, the son of Chris A. & Thora E. (Christensen) Nielsen.  He married Lavaun "Bonnie" Fines August 23, 1952 in El Paso, Texas.  She preceded him in death January 15, 2003.  Eugene served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He worked for Assink Brothers and later H & H Machine Tool & Die for thirty-three years.

Survivors include two sons, Chris Nielsen of Dike and Neal Nielsen of Port Huron, Michigan and two daughters, Cindy Weber of Dike and Darlene Nielsen of Port Huron, Michigan.  Eugene was very proud of his ten grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.  He is also survived by three brothers, Donald Nielsen of Waterloo, Allen (Judy) Nielsen and Dennis (Myong) Nielsen, both of Cedar Falls, and a brother-in-law, Jerry Mayne, of Waterloo. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and wife, and one sister, Mary Mayne.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Fredsville Lutheran Church, with burial at Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls.  Military honors will be conducted by Dike American Legion Post 471. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to service time at the church.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
