Eugene L. "Gene" Marron, Sr., 86, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Baltimore, Maryland, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Western Home Communities Windhaven Assisted Living Center in Cedar Falls. He was born September 16, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Eugene William and Thelma D. (McDermott) Marron. Gene married Mary Lee Zepp on September 21, 1946 in Baltimore. He graduated from Forest Park High School in Baltimore in 1942 and attended Western Maryland College. Gene served in the U.S. Army Eighth Air Force 445th bomb group as a tail gunner, under the command of Major Jimmy Stewart, in the European Theatre of Operations, during WW II. He flew twenty-five missions over Germany and was awarded the Air Medal. After the war, Gene was a self-employed insurance adjuster and appraiser, and owned Appraisers, Inc. in Baltimore. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, serving for many years as the chairman of the stewardship committee for the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, and also served the Iowa Diocese as well. Gene also served the Boy Scouts of America for many years, and received the Silver Beaver Award and was appointed to the National Council. Survivors include his wife, Lee Marron, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Gene L. (Martha) Marron, Jr. of Baltimore and Michael L. (Amy) Marron of Avon Lake, Ohio; a daughter, Sherry (Ron) Padavich, of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be 11:00 am Friday, June 15, 2012, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Memorials may be directed to the church, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the Boy Scouts of America.
