Eugene S. "Gene" Gabbard, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, October 11, 2010, in Waterloo, of Lewy Body Disease.  He was born July 10, 1922 in Combs, Arkansas, the son of John and Sara "Ocie" (Hendrickson) Gabbard.  Gene married Betty A. Rowzee on February 24, 1940 in Cedar Falls.  She preceded him in death on June 27, 2005.  Gene served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and worked at John Deere in Waterloo for over thirty-nine years.  He was a member of Black Hawk Masonic Lodge #65 AF & AM and Heartland Vineyard Church.

Survivors include two sons, William Gabbard of Moline, Illinois and Ronald (Patty) Gabbard of Riverside, California; three daughters, Connie (Ken) Leahy of Cedar Falls, Judy (Doug) Perkins of Mesquite, Nevada, and Pam Gabbard-Fristo of Cedar Falls; eleven grandchildren, Will Gabbard, Elizabeth Gabbard, Jason Gabbard, Brian (Tonya) Gabbard, Tim (Angie) Gabbard, Michelle Daubs, Tiffany Gabbard, Matthew (Amy) Kunkle, Candace Perkins, Tausha Fristo and Josh Fristo; eight great grandchildren, Jordan Gabbard, Alex Gabbard-Sheehan, Cody & Jacob Gabbard, Britney & Morgan Kunkle, and Grace & Elijah Gabbard; three step grandchildren, Mike, Lori & Greg Leahy, and two step great grandchildren, Ashlee & Skye Reece.

Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty and his parents; a granddaughter, Tamara Perkins; a brother, Deloy Gabbard, and a sister, Louinza Kouns.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls.  Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.  Visitation will be 4 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a 7:00 p.m. Masonic Service conducted by Black Hawk Masonic Lodge #65 AF & AM.  A memorial fund will be established.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .
