ESTELLA L. VAN DORN was born June 15, 1901 in Waverly, Iowa , the daughter of Edward and Ada (Fuller) Van Dorn. She was a graduate of Waverly High School then taught at country schools near Waverly, Readlyn, Horton, and Shell Rock, Iowa. Estella graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (U.N.I.) and was an elementary school teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in Cedar Falls for over 30 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Waverly, was a lifetime member of the Iowa State Teachers Association, and was a Sunday School and Summer Bible Class teacher. Estella died Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home at 99 years of age.
She is survived by her brother, Galen and his wife, Mary, of Waterloo, Iowa, two sisters, Ada Bloom of Three Rivers, Michigan and Mary Ellen Wallbaum of Waverly. Estella was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Leighton, Rex, Stuart, Romane, and Lyle Van Dorn, and two sisters, Vesta Nicol and Vivian Roever.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2000, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Interment will be at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, 211 Third St. SW, Waverly, Iowa 50677.
