Ernest Doeden, 80, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at his home in Cedar Falls.  He was born June 9, 1929 in Butler County, Iowa, the son of Ernest W. and Ella (Bergman) Doeden.  Ernest married Beverly Joyce Hoff on July 17, 1954 at Grace Methodist Church in Waterloo, Iowa.  He was a graduate of New Hartford High School and Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls.  Ernest served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He worked at Shepherd Lumber Company in Waterloo and Barnes Lumber Company in Cedar Falls, retiring in 1996.  Ernest was a member of the Northeast Iowa Homebuilders Association Hall of Fame, and enjoyed both bowling and golf.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of Cedar Falls; a son, Ernest L. (Dawn) Doeden, of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Susan D. (Steve) Spinelli of Lees Summit, Missouri, Carol A. (Tony) Layton of Weston, Missouri and Jane M. (Terry) Logan of Blairs, Virginia; eleven grandchildren, Lindsey Doeden, Jacob Doeden,Maddy Doeden, Michelle Spinelli, Nicole (Sean) Murray, Stephen Spinelli, Zachary Layton, Kieran Layton, Brea Logan, Kayla Logan, Tyrel Logan, and a brother, Thomas A. (Ila) Doeden, of Cedar Falls.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Geraldine Huisman, Anna Ramige and Grace Johnson, and four brothers, George, Joe, Omke and James Doeden.

Services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, November 21, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls.  Burial will be at Garden of Memories in Waterloo, where military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.  Visitation will be 4—8:00 pm Friday, November 20, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Cedar Valley Hospice or Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com
