Erna C. Blankenhagen

Erna C. Blankenhagen, 84, of Cedar Falls, died at her home on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. Erna was born August 16, 1927, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of James & Eleonora (Schneider) Eustace. She married Delmar Blankenhagen May 10, 1947, in Trenton, New Jersey. He preceded her in death January 4, 2009. Erna received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College and taught in a country school in Humboldt County, Iowa. Survivors include her son, Del (Jeri) Blankenhagen, of Newnan, Georgia; three daughters, Deb (Bruce) Johnson, of Hudson, Iowa, Cindie (Randy) Archer, of Smith Center, Kansas, and Cara (Jim) Burke, of Cedar Falls; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; and her sister, Lorraine (Al) Wilson, of Kansas City, Missouri. Erna was preceded in death by her parents and husband; one son, Charles Blankenhagen, two grandsons and one great grandson. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at College Hill Lutheran Church, with burial at 2:30 p.m. in North Lawn Cemetery in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
