Emma R. Morgensen

Emma R. Morgensen, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls. She was born January 1, 1922 in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, the daughter of Earl G. and Hazel L. (Straight) Saltzman. Emma married Bernard H. Morgensen on April 16, 1949 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1996. Emma attended Mt. Ayr Public Schools and graduated from Dike Community High School in 1939. She worked for Wagner Manufacturing for several years, Baird & Fink Real Estate, and was the medical secretary for Dr. Don Penly and Dr. Ed Ceilly for eight years and Dr. Tom Bairnson for twelve years, retiring in 1987. Emma was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Home Auxiliary, the Medical Assistants of Iowa and was a Community Meals volunteer. Survivors include two sisters, Rella Southard and Rhea June Neighbors, both of Cedar Falls, and numerous nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by her parents and husband, four brothers, Leslie F. Saltzman, Evan L. Saltzman and two in infancy, and three sisters, Wilma Loomis, Caryl Jeanes and Lois Litchfield. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church.
