Elmer Leo Ballhagen, 101, of Cedar Falls, formerly of New Hartford, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Falls. He was born April 20, 1910 near New Hartford, Iowa, the son of Leon and Pearl (Townsend) Ballhagen. He married Alma June de Neui on June 10, 1955 in Cedar Falls. Before his retirement, he was a carpenter and farmer in the New Hartford area. He is survived by his wife, Alma Ballhagen, of Cedar Falls; two sons, David Ballhagen, of Cedar Falls and Wesley (Sherri) Ballhagen, of Shell Rock; one daughter, Mary (Gary) Dempster, of Garnavillo, Iowa; six grandchildren, Loren (Becky) Dempster, Brad (Jeannie) Dempster, Laura Dempster, Journey Ballhagen, Jacee and Jamison Orth, and four great grandchildren, Eva, Kailey, Allie, and Gavin Dempster. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Esther Rittgers and Beulah DeVries, and two brothers, Wayne and Lloyd Ballhagen. Elmer's most important moment in life was when he trusted the Lord Jesus Christ and was born again, December of 1940. He was in fellowship at the Stout Gospel Hall for over 65 years and greatly appreciated this priveledge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Cedar Falls Gospel Hall, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, New Hartford.
