ELLEN AILEEN
HANSEN, 83, of Red Wing, Minnesota and formerly of Washburn and Cedar Falls, Iowa, died peacefully with dignity, surrounded by her family, at her son's home in Red Wing, Minnesota on Tuesday, February 8, 2005. She was born November 6, 1921 in Grinnell, Iowa. Ellen married Sidney Degn Hansen on August 26, 1939. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1982, after 43 years of marriage. Ellen was devoted to her family and was a constant force for her children. She was loved by her family and so many friends, whom she considered her extended family. They referred to her as "Mom", "Auntie" and "Grandma".
Ellen is survived by three sons, Sid (Kat) Hansen, Steven Hansen and Stuart (Lisa) Hansen; two daughters, Julianne Willey and Janine Hansen; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchilrdren; and three sisters, Freda May (Earl) Hansen, Carol (Don) Farrell and Ardith Shull.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Florence (Sparks) Howell, her birth father, Noah Halterman and the father who raised her, Earl Howell; an infant daughter, Janice Ellen Hansen; a brother, Roy Howell and a sister, Iva Howell.
Memorial services were 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2005, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Inurnment will be at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls at a later date. A memorial fund will be established.
